About the Chanting Model
The chanting you hear here is produced by Vāgdhenu, a metrically-aware Sanskrit chant text-to-speech system built by Prof. Prathosh A.P., Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Communication Engineering at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, where he leads the Representation Learning Lab. He holds a Ph.D. from IISc (2015) and previously served as faculty at IIT Delhi, alongside research experience at Xerox Research India and Philips Research. Vāgdhenu chants classical ślokas with tradition-faithful melodic contour and correct verse-meter timing rather than reading them as flat speech — independent evaluation has scored it around 4.6 out of 5 with expert listeners, and it has already been used to produce a 32-part Mahābhārata Tātparya Nirṇaya video series and a 16,000-verse Śrīmad Bhāgavatam audio project.
